With the drastic change in the American automotive industry over the last years, lots of very interesting new vehicles have come on the market. There are a handful of new automotive companies that are doing things in an entirely new way — starting from scratch withtout any of the legacy burdens of the big three, now the NOT so big three. One of the great new examples seems to be Telsa, born on the West Coast from
internet fortunes, Telsa is taking the electric car mantle as it’s own. It has created some of the worlds most highly advanced electrics and seems to have leap froged ahead of players like BMW and Mercedes in the EV arena.
Another, much simpler, example is GEM which I believe is owned in part by Chrylser or what is now left of Chrysler. GEM (http://www.gemcar.com) started out more as community- car made for gated retirement communities in states like Florida and Arizona, but now are being legalized in many more states for use on streets in cities, even New York City. You can see a few examples of these golf cart-like buggies touring around town when the weather is good. The sample, above, is a newer concept by GEM of what their next iteration may look like.
